      SharePoint Page


            A page is basically an area to display content to users, such as images, hyperlinks, lists, libraries, web parts, and text. SharePoint pages consists of forms editable in browser provides content to users and structure of the SharePoint environment.

      Types of SharePoint Pages: Web Part Page, Standard Page.

· A standard page contains text, images, Web Parts, and other elements.

·  A Web Parts page contains Web Parts in Web Part zones.




Web Parts

Web Parts show data present inside the document library or list on the top level site or any site. Web Parts are components inserted into pages used to display information through SharePoint apps or any third party app(browser).

For example, Ads part of the web page.

· Web parts are blocks separated for a particular purpose. E.g. displaying a calendar on home page.

· List View Web Part- shows the content of lists and lets you add new items in it. This removes the need of user to navigate to the actual lists and libraries.

· Web part is displayed at site level collection, can be reused across various sites.

· Web parts can be placed in the regions of the page known as zones.

· To create web part in a page, Home Page>Settings>Edit Page>Web Part Menu

· Properties of Web Part: Appearance, Layout, Advanced

· In Layout property, the zone and the order in which the web part is to be displayed in the zone can be mentioned.

        SharePoint View

     Views show the content in the list/library/web part in different ways we want to display.

Different views may show different columns and have different sorting, filtering, grouping and styles.  

       In SharePoint, views can be either public or private:

    · Public—the list's or library's managers create public views, and these views are available to anyone to use.

    · Private—Users create private views. Only the user who created a private view can use that view.

Different types of views in SharePoint 2010:

   · Standard View- tabular view with column headers and values in rows but no ability to edit the data directly 

   · Calendar View- view shows the items in a list based on dates that are set on the items

      · Access View- access database report view 

   · Datasheet View- spreadsheet view with ability to edit the data 

· Gantt view
